What are these gray bars?
Submitted by keremcan on Monday, 18 January, 2010 - 02:44
Hi

I am getting these vertical gray lines in my files. I understand the function , but I would like to disable them. Does anyone know where they come from and how to disable them? They are quite distracting

Toggle for current buffer: Plugins -> WhiteSpace -> Show fold guides

Toggle default for newly opened buffers: Plugins -> Plugin Options -> WhiteSpace -> Fold Guides -> Show fold guides by default.

Robert, those aren't fold guides. I'm getting the same thing - they're vertical bars in the text area denoting the tab levels (they're driving me crazy as well), not the fold guides that appear in the gutter. They only showed up in the most recent versions of jEdit.

Could be:
Plugin "CandyFolds"

Fold Guides

You didn't try my recommendation, did You?

The lines begin at fold start and end up at fold end, don't they? If You don't believe me, then simply disable the whitespace plugin. I'm pretty sure that the lines disappear. (The fold markers in the Gutter are not controlled by a plugin!)

Actually, I did! Since I have folds set to explicit, mine don't start and end at my defined folds... Hmmm...

Axel nailed it. The lines are fold lines, but they're from the CandyFolds plugin, not the WhiteSpace plugin. I guess it pays to read the description a little more closely than I did; I was expecting my existing fold lines to gain color, but the plugin description is, "CandyFolds draws colored indentation-guides on the text area to improve code readability." Not quite what I was expecting.

Disabling the CandyFolds plugin made the bars go away instantly.

Thanks to you and Axel for the help on this one.
