Ugly font rendering on Linux

Hi, I'm getting a really ugly font rendering, as you can see in the following links:

I had a similar problem with netbeans but after adding some extra commands to netbeans.conf[1], it solved the problem.

I'm using Arch Linux x86-64 and OpenJDK

I can confirm this, the anti-aliasing feature/ subpixel does work very good on Linux with Java6.

I'm using
- Ubuntu 8.04
- package "openjdk-6-jdk"
- 32 (!) bit kernel

So please try it with on an extra partition with the 32bit-version Eye-wink

Use anti aliasing

jEdit does not allow -Dswing.aatext=true, but if you use JDK 1.6 for jEdit 4.3, you can do anti-aliasing with jEdit Global Options.

Set "Utilities -> Global Options -> TextArea -> Anti Aliased smooth text" to subpixel.
