jEdit has a weird look

I don't know why, but when I open jEdit now the interface becomes all screwed up on mouse-over, or when I type at the caret. The interface I configured normally has 4 panes: left for console, right for preview of output (I use jEdit with LilypondTool), in the middle for input, and below that I have a pane for midi playback. Except when I mouse over the right pane, or type in the middle pane, I get something that looks like this:

Sometimes closing and restarting jEdit works; sometimes it doesn't. Last time I had to completely uninstall and reinstall jEdit for the problem to go away, but after I closed jEdit yesterday, opening it up again seems to just bring the problem back.

Have You changed any in jEdit or system configuration shortly before this issue (i.e. graphics drivers)?

Maybe a plugin is causing the issue. You can look at the Activity Log for related errors.

Try to delete parts of (or the whole) settings directory of jEdit (Have You done this when uninstalling jEdit?).

I only use jEdit for LilypondTool; it's hardly reasonable for me to try fix the issue by disabling it, I might as well not use it at all then. Sticking out tongue

Where is this directory? When I uninstalled it I deleted the whole jEdit folder in Program Data, but nothing in C:\Users.

Goto "Utilities -> Settings Directory". The first entry of the submenu is the settings directory.

1. To be sure: what didn't help?

2. If I've understood You correctly, You've found the trigger of the problem, which is You "compile the text", right? Does this mean You've invoked a LilyPond action?
Though I don't want You to not use LilypondTool, it could help to know, if the problem occurs without using LilypondTool - could You try this?

3. Have You had a look at the Activity Log for related errors?

1) Deleting the settings directory.

2) Not precisely. The trigger is the compiling of the text, but only when the PDF previewer is there, whether docked or floating. If I close the preview, the problem still persists, though. And it affects all jEdit's windows - Help, log window, plugin manager, etc.

3) Not sure what to look for. I could post it or upload it if someone is willing to have a look at it for me.

Ok. Please start jedit and try to trigger the problem immediately, so the Activity Log won't be too long. Then exit jEdit, upload the Activity Log and give me a link.

Java Command Line options

No problem, the Activity Log is very small. But unfortunately I cannot see anything what can help us.

Could You try to add the command line options "-Xmx1024M" and "-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true" to your C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.bat file? The command line should then look like:
start "jEdit startup" "C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024M -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -jar "G:\Tools\jEdit_43_Test\jedit.jar" -noserver %*

Then start jedit via this batch file.

-Xmx1024M ... provide max. 1 GB Memory for Java instead of the default of 64MB
-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true ... disable DirectDraw for Java
