Opening JEdit

I think what happens is when I try and open jedit, the program gets to a certain part, then indicates it is initializing plugins, then 'freezes-up' and will not finish opening. Please help.

Please, always provide some info when there is any problem:
- OS version
- jEdit version

Also, please insert the first 40 and last 20 lines of Your Activity.log file (found in jEdit#s settings directory) here.

Sorry Robert. My OS is Ubuntu 11.04 beta 1, and my version of JEdit is 4.3. Also, forgive me for being ignorant, but how can I insert my Activity.log file if the program will not even open? Again, please forgive my ignorance. Thanks for any help you can provide.

No problem at all. Since jEdit starts initializing, it does write the Activity.log file. Then, when You have killed jEdit, You can open it by another editor, i.e. gedit.

You should find Activity.log in /home/{user_name}/.jedit. Note that ".jedit" is a hidden directory. Maybe You have to configure Your file manager to show it.

jcrontab plugin

A look at the last lines of Activity.log shows errors at jcrontab, which I guess comes from jcrontab plugin. Remove this jar from the jars subdirectory (under settings or jedit program dir) and try a restart of jEdit...

I tried the first of those paths, but to no avail. I then tried the second of those paths, and got into the jEdit subdirectory, but no jars subdirectory, only a jedit.jar file, which I could do nothing with (not delete - b/c apparently I do not have read/write access to this file??)

I finally found and deleted the jcrontab plugin, but when I restarted JEdit, the same problem occurred as before.

Other Plugins
by Robert Schwenn on Sat, 16/04/2011 - 19:17
Well, then there should be other Plugins too, which don't work. There are two options for You, I think:

1. Go on this way, means: look for errors in Activity.log and disable the plugins causing errors, or

2. Remove all plugins, and install plugins one by one - not all at once.
