XML open and close tag highlight
Submitted by yookoala on Sunday, 12 February, 2012 - 07:01
Hi all,

I have been using jEdit for quite some years. There is a feature I need but I don't know how to enable it.

I'm a PHP developer. There are many HTML jobs involved in my code. I want to see the closing tag when my cursor is on the open one (and the other way round). I found that jEdit can do that sometimes. But after some time, the feature seems to be gone. I couldn't figure out how to keep that feature in place.

Can anybody tell me how? What modules should I install? What modules should I NOT install? Do I need to do any configuration?

xml sidekick parser

Generally it seems to work a bit arbitrary for me, too. Since it sometimes work for You, You seem to have installed the needed plugins (SideKick, XML).

At the time when this feature doesn't work, You should ensure that the current sidekick parser is set to "html" or "xml". The current parser is shown (and can be changed temporarily) inside the sidekick dockable in the topmost combo box.

I've checked that the sidekick parser is set to "html". The feature is not working now. Is there any more thing I can check?

Does Your sidekick parser shows the html/xml document structure tree?

I tried again with a html file and an edit mode other than "html" or "xml" - and Sidekick didn't parse the file. The structure tree then is empty and tag rceognition doesn't work.

So, maybe You need to try html or xml mode first.

The structure tree display correctly. But the XML highlight is not working. I also tried to install Highlights module. It didn't help either.

Are You sure that You are in "html" or "xml" edit mode?

If so, What versions of jEdit and plugins do we talk about?

It doesn't work for me, too. The sidekick parser shows the html/xml document structure tree correctly. The black box surrounding the matching tag never come out. But the auto tag completion works.

Anybody know how to report this problem to XML plugin developer?

Indeed! It works now. This dependency missing is really annoying.

Thank you so much!
