Using java2d.noddraw on Windows
Submitted by exxa on Friday, 11 May, 2012 - 16:29
Using jEdit causes my GPU to leave its idle state. This eventually causes it to heat up, which causes the fan to increase in speed. Really not something that's necessary when doing editing. I saw a way to disable 2d acceleration, which in the past has cured this. However, I notice this version of jEdit no longer launches from the .bat file, but has a "jEdit.exe." How do I pass -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true when jEdit starts?

jedit.l4j.ini

Hi,
jEdit 4.4.1 had used a file called "jedit.l4j.ini" that could hold one JVM option per line:

# *** begin file ***
# Options for j4j itself:
#-------------------------
#--l4j-debug
# To make sure the output executable is configured correctly you can use the debug launching mode to log various information to the launch4j.log file.
#--l4j-default-proc
# Use default process name.
#--l4j-dont-wait
# Disable the "stay alive" function.
#--l4j-no-splash
# Disable the splash screen.
#--l4j-no-splash-err
# Disable splash screen error on timeout, might be useful on very slow computers.

# JVM Options:
-Xmx192M
# *** end of file ***

Maybe this still works in jEdit 4.5.

It's disabled as of 4.5.0 according to http://www.jedit.org/CHANGES45.txt

I guess I'll downgrade.

edit: ugh, still uses GPU, even with 4.4.1 and the jedit.l4j.ini file with -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true in it. Don't know why it's necessary for a text editor to have 2d acceleration tbh. Even Thunderbird has it, but at least it's easy to disable there. /rant

wonder what the newest non-accelerated version of jedit is...

Hi,
CHANGES45.txt says that the jedit.l4j.ini file is removed because ist's empty by default now, if I understand correctly.

Are You sure that the file and the contained options are ignored?
