jEdit changes the string 'and ' to a character that looks like an open square.

The java.io.CharConversionException sites character '^'(U+2227) with encoding "Cp1252" on a save. I am guessing that i caused the error by hitting some key combination shortly before. It occurred first in a .py file, but also occurs in a .txt file. How do i get rid of this behavior?

Problem: Some English words are translated to symbols
1. Greek letters as English words are translated to symbols:
- example 'lambda ' is converted to the equivalent small . Greek letter.
2. Logic and Math words are transliated to symbols.
-examples: and, or, in, exists, sum, div, top, int, pm . converts to symbols
or small empty square if the symbol is not recognized.
Scope: Windows XP 32-bit, WIndows 7 64-bit with jEdit 4.5.2
Problem solved thanks to echristopherson@stackoverflow!
Solution: Go to Utilities --> GlobalOptions --> abbreviations --> global. Then change or delete the abbreviations not wanted. I chose to change them. For example i changed 'and' to 'zzzand'
