A simple Perl commando file. Has compile and run options and you can set arguments.

why starting the command with "start perl" and not "perl"?
anyway the "start perl" is not working.
ans even "perl" works only for "compile" and "Run".
"Debug" is not working well.
had to change to "rxvt -e perl -d "

You can find a useful commando file under www.jedit.org/Comunity Download/Commando Files (http://community.jedit.org/?q=filestore/browse/20). It should be used together with the console plugin and allows you to run and compile (syntax check) perl files in the current buffer. You can easily adapt it to your needs.

Is there another commando file for perl?

Hi,

That's the file i am using. and the questions are:
1. i don't understand the meaning of "start perl"
2. the debug mode is not working properly - all output is driven to
the terminal which started jedit. to solve this i have set the command to:
buf.append("rxvt -e perl -d");

(I am the one who posted about "start")

I'm not sure how to make this perl.xml that I edited available - if you want it, feel free to ask.

How does one post a new commando or mode .xml file to this site?

start perl

"start" is a Windows command
it means "run the command in a new window"
this is nice for perl because starting it in a new window allows typing to stdin, which the JEdit Console does not currently support.

On a windows console, type "help start" to get more info.

I'm not sure what the equivalent linux command is...

One thing that I added to my perl.xml is the /D option for the start command, which lets perl execute in the directory of the .pl file itself, rather than wherever on the system perl.exe happens to be.

Sometimes my perl scripts access local files, so that becomes useful.
