Superscript plugin - I don't get it
Submitted by PauloSargaco on Wednesday, 8 September, 2004 - 15:33
Hi there.

I installed superscript and downloaded js.jar from Mozilla's Rhino. I then copied js.jar to {jedit.home}/jars and restarted jEdit. I also changed the superscript optins so that js is recognized as a macro extension. When I use superscript it seems that nothing useful happens. For instance, if I use the text box in the superscript docking window, when I type 2 +2, what I get in the results window is just an echo of what was typed:

-> 2 + 2

same thing with every instruction like parseInt("qwq123").

I also tried opening a js script with jEdit and using the Execute Script button. Nothing happens.

I must be missing something really obvious.

What version of Rhino are you

What version of Rhino are you using. am afraid, the Javascript engine for BSF is not very up todate. I had got Rhino working but only faintly remember the correct version something like ...1.4 or some early version of 1.5 so I guess you have to try different versions of Rhino since the later versions are incompatible with BSF. But once you get hold of the right version, it works like a charm.

I'm using Rhino 1.5 Release 5. Maybe I'll try with an older version, thanks

Tried it for Ruby/jRuby

Ignore my previous comment. I tried it out myself ... with Ruby, and the jRuby jar did indeed need to go into {jedit.home}/jars/ after installation of SuperScript

With the SuperSCript window, typing 2-2 gave me 0. (It does echo out "2-2" to the buffer, but it also gives the answer). This sounds like the same steps you took for JS/Rhino ... so I'm not sure what's going on.
I'm not an expert on this, as

I'm not an expert on this, as I've never tried it before. But maybe the .jar should go in the macro directory?

That doesn't make much sense, but I'll try it any way

So I tried it, and as expected it didn't work. I got org/mozilla/javascript/JavaScriptException. The macro folder is for actual scripts. I would put there .js files but not the js.jar which is a jar. Something like a java zip file. I also tried placing js.jar in the Documents and Setings\.jedit\jars folder but the behaviour I got was the same as when I had in the {jedit.home}\jars folder.
