Mouse wheel scrolling under Windows XP not active
Submitted by gorb on Monday, 2 February, 2004 - 10:33
Hi All,

I don't know wether this topic
a) has been handled before, or
b) belongs in this forum,
but here goes: my mouse wheel is dead in jEdit under WinXP.

Does anybody know why this could be happening?
I updated my JRE to version 1.4.2_03, just to be sure, but the behaviour
is the same: the mouse wheel is dead.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

Mine seems to work fine. I wish I could tell you why.

Mouse wheel in XP

If it helps, I'm using XP pro with an MS Intellimouse optical, connected via usb. I have done nothing to make it work, but it works straight off.

This might seem like a facetious question (not intended) but I assume the wheel is working in other apps?

Have you checked the mouse wheel settings in Windows Control Panel? You don't have any special settings for your particular mouse do you?

My guess is that it is still your version of Java causing problems. Have you run jedinit.exe (Start- Programs - JEdit - Set Jedit Parameters? If not, you may still be pointing at the old jdk app loader, or the old java home... or both...

Ensure "Location of Java application loader" is set to javaw.exe in the new jdk location:
e.g.
"C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\jre\bin\javaw.exe"

Where do you specify your JAVA_HOME? If you use a system-wide env variable, make sure it has been set correctly.

You might also (I'd recommend it) want to ensure JAVA_HOME is set by modifying the "Command line options for Java application loader" to something like

-mx128m -DJAVA_HOME=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03 -jar

I had the same problem as the original poster. I had an old version of Java, and then I downloaded the latest and greatest version, however the mousewheel still did not work. Your suggestion above fixed my problem! I ran the Jedit Parameters and noticed Jedit was pointing to the old javaw.exe. I pointed it to the correct one, and the problem was solved. Thanks so much!!

Thanks!
May be a FAQ...

Having not actually had the problem myself, it was a bit of a shot in the dark. Glad to hear it worked for you.
