Searching for Non printing characters

How do you search for non-printing characters? ie: Searching for and replacing all carriage returns with tabs or vice versa...

Use Search > Find
mark on the Dialog Settings: Regular Expressions
then enter in the Search for Field: \r
and in the Replace with Section: \t

Tip: in the jEdit Help there is a section jEdits Users Guide > Using jEdit > Regular Expressions you will find a list of "Character Class Shortcuts"

Searching for "\r" doesn't work with Jedit 4.3-pre16 or 4.2-final on Ubuntu 9.04.
 
Maybe "\n" does the job. R

Thanks much, converting over from BBedit, which kind of combined regexp and the regular searching all into one...
