So I think it's best to close it. Because now (2010) jEdit works very good.

Installed with Synaptic - doesn't work
by tiggsy on Tue, 19/10/2010 - 12:07
I installed it with synaptic. Java was already in place. I tried to start it and got a splash screen with "init" at the bottom for so long I gave up. Then I rebooted and tried again. This time I got "loading user settings" or something similar - today I'm getting "init" again.

All I can do is use the system monitor to kill java (jedit itself isn't listed).

Is there a version that actually works?

My system: Ubuntu 10.04,

It sounds so strange that, the anything i can say is : check your java installation.

Have you tried running java -jar jedit.jar from a console ?

settings directory
by Robert Schwenn on Sat, 30/01/2010 - 11:17
I suspect that there are problems using the same settings directory for both 4.2 and 4.3 version. Please exit jEdit and delete (or rename) Your settings directory. You can find out the location via "Utilities -> Settings Directory" - it is the most upper item in the list.

If You want to use both versions, consider to set the settings directory at command line via the "-settings" option (see http://www.jedit.org/users-guide/cli-usage.html).
