JavaDebugger not working

Whenever I try to load JavaDebugger (v1.4) it keeps on coming up with an error saying that I need to install JDK 1.3 or later but I have JDK 1.5 on my computer and I thought I had set the JavaDebugger up correctly so does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong? I have tried deleting and reinstalling both the Javacore and JavaDebugger plugins with no success.

I wanted to use the JavaDebugger but have problem running it. When I clicked on the "Start Debugging the program" button, a dialog box with title "BeanShell Error" popup. There is a bug in JDK 1.5 with JPDA. If the tools.jar is loaded in a different classloader than the system class loader then the initialization fails. see the bug:

jEdit 4.2 seems to use a separate class loader for tools.jar and hence the problem. either use jEdit 4.3 or use JDK1.4 to solve the issue.
