Ruby Plugin: auto-completing quotes and brackets not working
Submitted by malesca on Sunday, 19 March, 2006 - 00:25
I've installed jEdit 4.3pre3 and the Ruby Plugin, but I find the auto-completion of quotes and brackets doesn't work. On my previous computer, I had jEdit 4.2 and the Ruby Plugin, and the auto-completion worked fine.

Does it work in 4.3 for anyone? Have I missed some setting? If I don't get it working, I'll try downgrading to 4.2.

Would want it for 4.3, as I'm not going to downgrade just for that.

How to turn Ruby "/( auto-complete on (now how to turn it off!?)

Hm, those replies didn't answer his/her question...

On my jEdit 4.3, autocomplete for quotes, parentheses, slashes etc is switched off until I use any other feature in the Ruby plugin. E.g. if I toggle Ruby Docs on and off, or have Ruby Docs come up as default, autocomplete magically switches on and stays on. On mine (Windows), even just looking at the Plugins > Ruby Plugin menu turns it on for all ruby buffers until I exit jEdit.

I know this, because I have the opposite problem. I use the Ruby plugin but I hate autocomplete (I know I'm unusual in this). I'm desperately trying to find a way to disable it and keep it disabled.

I've turned off the annoying buggy sidekick autosuggest pop-ups that always automatically suggest that I scatter "alias" all over my files at random. You turn that off through SideKick options, under Plugin options, and if you ever want it to popup then you can make it happen once from the Plugins > SideKick menu.

I can't find any way to turn off the auto complete for ", /, (, etc though. Even temporarily removing/unloading the Ruby Plugin through Plugin Manager doesn't work. The only thing I can find that works is uninstalling RubyPlugin completely, and I don't want to do that since I like its other features. Same problem on jEdit 4.2.

If anyone knows how to turn off or toggle this autocomplete feature, I'd be extremely grateful, thanks!
