How to create this look...
Submitted by ivy on Tuesday, 18 April, 2006 - 13:48
Hi, i'd like to customize as much as i can jEdit (i am a newbie, so please forgive me if i poststupid questions Smiling).

I like those colors, i know i can change those setting in the global option menu.
But, how can i "create" the effect used in the screenshot to collapse or expand some parts of code?

Thanks everyone for help,
Bye,
Ivy

Code folding
by Robert Schwenn on Tue, 18/04/2006 - 19:08
Code folding is controlled by at least 3 folding modes: explicit, indent or none. This mode has to be choosen in buffer options or GlobalOptions->Edit->Folding mode (standard is "none").

Explicit mode folds text inside a pair of "{{{" and "}}}" - see Your screenshot. Indent mode folds text with same indenting.
See jedit help->using jedit->folding...

settings
by Robert Schwenn on Tue, 18/04/2006 - 19:23
All none standard settings (those You have changed) are stored in the ascii-file (user-home)/.jedit/properties. In fact they are already "exported" and not grouped in visual or not visual.
But You should be able to find the settings You are interested in.

B.T.W. You can create separate properties files, name it (whatever).props, and place it in the properties directory of jEdit's home directory. These files are read (and only read) at startup before the user's properties file.

Thanks Robert,
Ok, perfect for the folder options, setting this to indent i got what i wanted Smiling

I have a question on the second item, "exporting properties".

In my c:\programmi\jedit\properties folder, i have a txt file, readme.txt, with some text explaining i can create .props files and then copy these files to the other computer i use.
My doubt is: what do i have to put in this .prop file?

Thank you very much

properties
by Robert Schwenn on Wed, 19/04/2006 - 19:20
...just the same things that You can find in the "%USERPROFILE%\.jedit\properties" file: properties alias settings. take a look at this file. Even if You change any setting in any optios dialog, the apropriate property is written to the "properties" file.

The difference is that *.props files in the c:\programmi\jedit\properties folder:
- are readonly for jedit
- are guilty for all users
- contain properties that take effect before the user properties file is read. That's why user changed settings have higher priority.

Thank you very much Robert!
Now i got it!

I was looking for the properties file stored in "%USERPROFILE%\.jedit\properties"
in the wrong location...

Now i've found it, and i've copied and pasted content in a .props file. When I'll go home I'll put it into the C:\.....\jEdit directory, and I'll see what's going to happen!

Thank you very much!
