associate text files with jedit

Hi,

It should be easy to associate text files w/jedit but I can not find jedit.exe anywhere on my windows2000, but jedit works OK.

The FAQ say something about a jedit launcher....

I'm looking for simple cookbook step by step instructions on how to get files associated w/jedit...please link me

On Windows NT/2000/XP, try this:

Create a text file called something like
C:\Program Files\jEdit\jEdit.cmd

Enter the following text in the file and save it:
start /d "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\" javaw.exe -Xms64M -Xmx192M -jar "C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.jar" -reuseview %*

The command above should all be on one line. You may have to change your paths to suit where your javaw.exe is installed.

Use Windows Explorer to find the file you would like to associate with jedit.

Right-click on the file and choose Open With...

Select Choose Program...

Check the "Always use the selected program" box.

Click on Browse... and find the jEdit.cmd file that you made above.

Click Open.

That should work.

Save the jEdit.cmd file as jEdit.bat instead.

jedit.jar should be executable. you could associate files with that.

if you browse to
c:/Program Files/jedit/jedit.jar

you can associate file name extensions with jedit.

Associating with jedit.jar does not work. I wish I could give you more info.

I'll try reinstalling JEdit - maybe that will work...

Reinstalled but did not work

Any suggestions welcomed...

[Windows]: Associate jEdit to txt-file

Hi,

I recently had big trouble to associate a file (vhdl) with jEdit on windows. The only successfull way I found looks ugly, but works fine (for me...).

- I created .bat-file

- I wrote into this file something like:
C:\Programme\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\javaw.exe -Xms64M -Xmx192M -jar "i:\Programs\jEdit\jedit.jar" -reuseview %1

I'm not completly sure about this, because I have this bat-file in my office and I'm at home now...

Of course, you must replace my pathes with your paths. You get them when you go where you click to start jedit and do a RIGHT-click there and click "properties".

- Then I associated the vhdl-files (in your case the txt-files) with the .bat file.
