Hanging problem
Submitted by srikrishnan on Tuesday, 18 March, 2008 - 08:10
Hi,

I am using JEdit mainly for the purpose of Writing and Editing XML and Perl Scripts in my Windows 2000 Professional Operating System.

I am encountering JEdit gets Hanged problem very often mainly with the use of plugin "console".

Particularly when i writing a perl script, if, for the testing purpose when I run the script using JEdit plugin console. I am not able to terminate the script by any shortcuts as like in Command prompt with "ctrl+C".

Also in one occasion, I have written a perl script to run infinitely for the purpose of Watch folder concept. At that time for testing purpose I have run that script in "Console". Even after closing the JEdit also script runs in background. At last I have restart my system. But this is not the case in "Command Prompt".

May I know whats the reason for the above behaviors, may be it could be the problem of JEdit with my type of OS.

Please check.

Regards,
Srikrishnan

There is a stop button on the console. I'm not sure if it'll work for you, but you might give it a try.

You can also do a ctrl+alt+delete and force stop the javaw command - this should be jEdit. That way you don't have to restart your whole system.

As for the hanging, could you please provide a little bit more information.

In jEdit, if you go to "Utilities" -> "Troubleshooting". Then click on "Activity Log". You'll see at the top of there where the actual log file is stored. Please copy the 10+ lines that include your system information (You may need to open this log file in jEdit or another text editor). They usually start like this:
[quote]
2:11:35 PM [message] Log: When reporting bugs, please include the following information:
2:11:35 PM [message] Log: java.version=1.5.0_15
2:11:35 PM [message] Log: java.vm.version=1.5.0_15-b04
[/quote]

You should also include the version of jEdit you are running.

Also, It would be helpful if you could watch that log when you try to stop your script in the Console Plugin to see if there are any errors. Any exceptions will be printed there.
