Remote access to the JEdit server

Hi,

I am looking for some editor which would allow simultaneous access from several computers, ie. others would see what one does in his client.

I've noticed that JEdit has client/server architecture and communicates over TCP/IP, so, is it capable of connecting remotely?

I suppose you could hack the code a bit to make it work, but as far as I know the jEdit server wasn't designed for this purpose.

From my understanding the server is really just a way to ensure that a single instance of jEdit is running on the machine. If you try to open a file in a new instance of jEdit, it checks to see if a server is running. If a server is running, the new instance passes the file information to the server instance, and then shuts down.

So technically, you could use it to open a file on a remote machine, assuming the file also existed in the same location on the remote machine.
