Help Menu unusable on Mac OS (Java 1.5 and 1.6)

If I try to activate the jEdit's[1] Help Menu on Mac OS, I get a spinning beach ball, a high CPU load and after some ten or twenty seconds the help menu appears (and, if I moved the mouse, disappears immediately, of course). (Even if I removed .jedit before.) I tried on two computers, running Apple's latest 1.5 (1.5.013-b05-237) and 1.6 (1.6.0_05-b13-120), so I'm afraid this is a bug / incompatibility.

… sorry, I forgot to mention I am on Mac OS 10.5.2, just in case.

I get the same with Java 1.5 and Leopard 10.5.5

Well, not fixed - but I don't get the problem with the Help menu if I use the Java version (org.gjt.sp.jedit.jEdit); I think there's a problem with the menu bar in general. All very snappy now.

Ah. Yes, there are documented issues with the Mac OS Plugin which comes with the Mac jEdit download. I usually change the look & feel to the metal theme, because the Mac one takes up too much space. When I do this, the menu bar comes down into the jEdit window and off the top (apple provided) one.

I still have the Mac OS Plugin enabled, and I haven't run into any of these issues.

Hi theorik,
I'm on Mac as well and I don't see this particular issue. I'm running jEdit 4.3pre13 with the Java 5 installation.
