I/O Error (Network is unreachable)
Submitted by Anonymous on Wednesday, 12 January, 2005 - 18:10
I can connect to the network to download the plugin list, etc.

However when I goto actually install a plug in, I get the error:

An I/O error occurred (Network is unreachable)

Please advise how to fix this problem. Java config issue maybe? Thanks. Log output below:

I have the same problem with

I have the same problem with 4.3pre2 on SuSE 9.3, and java 1.4.2_06.
The Download Mirrors list is empty when I open "Download Options". When I hit "Update Mirror list", the mirror sites appear, but no matter which one I select, I always get the dreaded "I/O Error. Network unreachable".
I'm having the same problem.

I am having exactly the same problem, and it is quite frustrating as I'm on the cusp of moving away from emacs (to jedit) for the first time in 15 years.

I am running Linux FC3 on an internet-connected LAN with no proxy server. All other internet apps work perfectly. I have un/reinstalled jedit twice using the java install. The error window (Network Unreachable) appears for each plugin that jedit is trying to install. ie if you select a bunch of plugins (w/ dependencies) youi get a whole stack of error windows. I have tried on successive days, in case it was a one off network problem, but no luck.

thanks in advance

use another mirror

Hi,

selecting another download site in the Download Options... window solved the problem for me.

Cheers,

Martin

Switching to another mirror solved the problem for me...

Me too (and, where is "Download options" dialog?)
by Anonymous on Mon, 07/02/2005 - 19:54
Same problem here, on SuSE 9.2. Worked fine on SuSE 9.1; this suggests a problem in the new Java shipped with SuSE 9.2.

Where is this Download Options window? Couldn't find it in the menus, and there's no mention in the help system.

Hmm. Nothing in either place ...
by Anonymous on Thu, 10/02/2005 - 20:07
No Download options in either place. I'm running jEdit 4.1final (as supplied in SUSE 9.2 and updated via YAST/YOU); perhaps the dialog is somewhere else or not compiled in?

In case its a jvm issue, here's the output of 'java -version':
java version "1.4.2_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_06-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_06-b03, mixed mode)

HTH. Thanks for your earlier reply!

"Download Options" can be fou

"Download Options" can be found by either going to: Plugins > Plugin Manager (down at the bottom) or: Utilities > Global Options > Plugin Manager

No Plugin Manager option

I'm also using SuSE 9.2, and the jEdit 4.1 version installed through YAST2. I don't have anywhere that I can select another mirror server, either in Utilities > Global Options, or in the actual Plugin Manager window. I get the I/O Error when trying to install selected plugins. What's up?

jEdit 4.1 was released in Feb

jEdit 4.1 was released in Feb. 2003. Consder an upgrade Eye-wink. More seriously, 4.1 doesn't expose an interface for this -- and you'd do well to upgrade anyway (recent plugin versions won't work w/4.1, etc...).
