Codebrowser and ctags: won't parse php files, saved as .inc

Hi All,

I want to use the code browser for php files. But i've saved all my library files as .inc and not as .php. Therefore the codebrowser won't work. Does anybody knows how i can solve this problem?

I can't get it to work

I am trying to edit php files as well.. They are all named .php. So the described problem doesn't really apply here... However, no function list is displayed here ;-(

The only thing the plugin in does, is creating the buffer switcher.

I am using 4.2pre11 on Win2k

I got it to work... I didn't configure the plugin correctly. All I did was refer to the ctags-directory instead of the executable in ctags-path config setting...

.ctags File

Depending on your OS, you need to make a proper ctags configuration file, and add this:

--langmap=php:+.inc

Make sure to have a new line after this in the file. Here is my exact file:

~ $ cat /usr/local/etc/ctags.conf
--langmap=php:+.inc
~ $

Note the newline.

Where to put the file and what to name it depends on your OS. As quoted from the ctags home page:

/ctags.cnf (on MSDOS, MSWindows only)
/etc/ctags.conf
/usr/local/etc/ctags.conf
$HOME/.ctags ($HOME/ctags.cnf on MSDOS, MSWindows)
.ctags (ctags.cnf on MSDOS, MSWindows)

If any of these configuration files exist, each will be expected to contain a set of default options which are read in the order listed when ctags starts, but before the CTAGS environment variable is read or any command line options are read. This makes it possible to set up site-wide, personal or project-level defaults. It is possible to compile ctags to read an additional configuration file before any of those shown above, which will be indicated if the output produced by the --version option lists the "custom-conf" feature. Options appearing in the CTAGS environment variable or on the command line will override options specified in these files. Only options will be read from these files. Note that the option files are read in line-oriented mode in which spaces are significant (since shell quoting is not possible). Each line of the file is read as one command line parameter (as if it were quoted with single quotes). Therefore, use new lines to indicate separate command-line arguments.

$HOME on Windows is C:\Documents and Settings\Username>\

Can't get this to work on Windows XP (np on linux). I've tried

Using the filenames
- .ctags
- ctags.cnf
- ctags.conf
Placing the file in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>
Placing the file in H:\ (both with and without $HOME and $HOMDEDIR set)

Anyways, this would be nice information in the module documentation of plugins using ctags.

On XP, put it in the jEdit install directory.

"C:\Program Files\jEdit\ctags.cnf" works for me.

Try: "c:\ctags.cnf".

Hmm.. still does not work for me.
Tried watching it with filemon too, it is never touched.
Something seriously wrong here - lot's of trolls walking the hall after this AD rollout...

Anyway, what I want to do is verry simple. I want to do --langmap=php:+.inc. On linux it was easy as pie to do this simply by adding the command line parameter to the ctags location (code browser settings). This does not work well on XP though. Might be an issue with the pathname (contains a space) and I have little option to move the installation.

The path is C:\Program Files\ctags554\ctags.exe
I've tried quoting the path, but it still does not work. Sad

I'll probably have to dig up a c compiler and add it source wise

Ok.
This sucked big time.

The problem was that the config file did not end with a new line.
