javac not found

I get the error message below from the console when I try to compile a buffer. I can't find a way of telling jEdit where javac is! I'm sure it's very funny if you know where but please help I've wasted hours looking on the forums for advice. Plugins > Console > Commando... Doesn't have a drop down list as descibed in one forum answer I read.

I have jEdit 4.2final and jdk 1.5.0 update 2
I can't believe I can't just tell jEdit where to find javac wherever it may be in my filing system. Help, please!

Find javac.exe

The console-plugin starts the command ("javac ...") in the system console of Your operating system - seems to be windows.
Thats why You don't need to tell jEdit where javac.exe resides. You should care that windows finds the program. Two options:
1. Add the directory of javac.exe to the %PATH%-Variable, OR
2. Create a batchfile javac.bat in the jEdit-directory, that calls javac.exe with full path:
(path_to_javac.exe)\javac.exe %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9

The autoexec.bat file is a bit too complicated for me on my thinkpad as it is all mixed up with the thinkpad utilities. However, the second method works perfectly! Brilliant, Thank you, Danke schon!

Is there anywhere I could find answers to these questions? I appreciate your help very much but I don't want to take advantage of your kindness. sooo...

You wouldn't happen to know where I could find out how to add a button to the toolbar for
1. compile
2. compile and run
3. run

or something like that anyway?

Customizing Toolbar

May be it's a help for You to enable the commando toolbar in plugin-options|console|general.

To costomize jEdit' Toolbar goto Global_Options|Toolbar. There You can choose any action (built-in or of a plugin) or any macro for a new or existing button.
I'm not sure, if there is an action for "compile AND run" - may be You have to write a macro therefore (see ..\jEdit\macros\misc\Run_Script.bsh).
