Mac OS Plugin Fails on Intel Mac
Submitted by eeverman on Thursday, 1 June, 2006 - 22:21
I have:
JEdit 4.2 final
Mac OS Plugin 3.0
JKD 1.5 (current)
OS X 10.4 (current)
Intel MacBook Pro

I ran updates on my plugins and the Mac OS plugin stopped working:

=============== Plugin Error ====================
MacOS.jar:
Cannot start java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.apple.eawt.Application.addApplicationListener(Lcom/apple/eawt/ApplicationListener;)V
Try updating to a newer version of the plugin
===========================================

I don't see a newer version of this plugin listed anywhere and it *was* working before. I don't remember if this was one of the plugins updated when I ran the update.

Can anyone confirm this plugin working on a similar intel Mac setup? Has anyone seen this issue?

Thanks,

Possible fix

I added few lines into file jEdit.app/Contents/Info.plist. Below is a fragment from Info.plist file where the new lines need to be added. The new lines are bolded.

<key>Java</key>
<dict>
  <key>Arguments</key>
  <string>-background</string>
  <key>ClassPath</key>
  <string>jedit.jar:/System/Library/Java/</string>
  <key>JVMVersion</key>
  <string>1.4+</string>
  <key>MainClass</key>
  <string>org.gjt.sp.jedit.jEdit</string>

Bug report

Well, if it occurs to everyone who has a 10.4.5+ system, maybe we should submit a bug report for it. We'd just need a few more testimonies, so we know for sure what system/JRE broke the menubar thing.

I have problems with Mac OS plugin too… But the difference is that I have PowerBook 12". Plugin runs normally except the "most" important feature, the menubar! This seems to be some OS X update related (or at least I suppose so…)

Sorry to de-lurk to post a "me too" message, but I've been trying for days to get the Mac OS Plugin working on my Intel-based Mac. The plug-in works for me, but lacks its most important (for me) feature: the native OS X menubar.

I'm using the latest OS X JRE (1.5.0_06-112), on OS X 10.4.6 for Intel. I've tried both the stable 4.2 version and the development version (both 4.3pre3 and 4.3pre4) and tried the differents hacks to enable the Mac OS X menubar support (I've tried both the 3.0 version of the plugin and one from the 2.x series), but nothing will do. It doesn't work.

I don't know if I can do something to help, but if I can, I'll do it gladly.

Thanks,
MT
